3.9L?

This is 100% correct. The sales numbers for the V6's were more then they anticipated and they had already stopped production of the 3.8 and started on the 4.0 for the 05's. The 3.9 was still in production and plentiful.

Ford had run out of production of the 3.8L because they were gearing up for the 4.0L in the 05s....They had the 3.9L for the Aerostar Van so they used that for the remainder of the 04 production. Actually the stroke is slightly longer but everything else is the same.

Flame suit on!
Another thing most people don't know about the 3.9. According to Ford's own specifications, the 3.9 is neither 3.9 liters nor 238 cubic inches. It is actually a 232 with a stroke lengthened by 0.004 inch, gaining about 5 cc or about 1/4 of a cubic inch.

So I popped the hood to see if mine was a 3.9, but its not marked anywhere. It just says V6??? On my "My Ford" homepage it lists the car you bought and under specs it says mine is a 3.9.

Look on the emissions control label under the hood. Usually it says it in the upper left corner.
