3.9L?
The base model recieved a new 3.9L V6 midway through the year which offered no increase in power, weight, or fuel economy.
If the 2004 v6 got a slightly bigger engine with no increases, why was it introduced? And they only kept it for half a year before changing the v6 engine once again. Anybody know ford's reasoning?
Ford had run out of production of the 3.8L because they were gearing up for the 4.0L in the 05s....They had the 3.9L for the Aerostar Van so they used that for the remainder of the 04 production. Actually the stroke is slightly longer but everything else is the same.
No you are.
Actuall, the thing about Ford running out of 3.8Ls is also not entirely accurate.. The 3.9L was introduced to the 04 as a marketing scheme to sell the last of the V6s off before the new 05s were introduced. I know this is the cause because I spoke to a manager at Slidell Ford and he said that the 3.9L was indeed a marketing scheme by Ford, and it did work fairly well.

So I'm not entirely wrong.....they say it was a marketing scheme[X(].....the truth is...Ford stopped 3.8L production from their supplier in England mid-season and picked up the 3.9L from Winsor, Canada to finish their North American (United States) 04 Mustang production. B e c a u s e they had already decided to change body style and use their "marketing ploy" to promote the 4.0 V6 which was going to be in the new redesigned 05. The 3.9L can only be found in American sold 04 Mustangs.[8D]
