Default Cleaning the engine bay...

Well, I just got my car today. Bought it from my bro-in-law. It had been sitting in his driveway for a year or more. I put in a new battery and it fired right up. It only has about 75k miles on it so it's in good shape. The engine bay is dirty though. Not from oil or gunk but from dust from sitting so long. Anyone have any tips on cleaning it up? I saw some engine cleaner and the parts store earlier and was wondering how that would work. Would there be any issues or concerns if I take it to a car wash and hose the whole thing down with a pressure hose?

a can of engine cleaner and a pressure washer works well, just be sure to cover up all electronics sensitive to water. ie: coil pack, alternator, battery, etc..

I'd be scared to use a pressure washer... maybe just a water hose?

yea don't get on here and say " I sprayed my alt with the pressure washer and now it's broke, what happend?" lol yea you should be fine. I like using some purple power on it, it makes grime melt right off.

if "stag" is me then yes you can, both the the spray and refill container. I go to discount due to the people at autozone don't usually know what there talking about, but thats around here maybe they are intelligent were u live. haha

cover all electrical things
purple power the hell outta everything
turn on your hose, without a nozzle on it
lightly rinse everything off

Eh, I'm still hesitant to just take a hose to my engine bay. I clean one would be nice though....

Nothing works better than some soapy water, a few rags, and a little elbow grease.
