Default Re-Flash

Hello All! I was wondering if some of you might tell me what kind of price your dealers charge for a re-flash. Also how long should it normally take for them to do this?
I just got my pony grill and lights installed, but my lights still don't work. I found out from afixer (thanks again dude![sm=hail.gif]) that I probably need the re-flash to enable the relay for the fogs. I've now spoken to 3 dealers who aren't sure if thats what I need or not, but have been given 3 qoutes of $82, $112 and $118 to do a re-flash. Also, does any body make a tuner that would enable me to do a re-flash myself? Any info will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

If you buy a tuner and install an aftermarket tune, you will be reflashing. I would do that rather than have the dealer reflash, because EVERYONE that has installed a tune has reported a huge improvement in performance (and shifting on autos).

I have heard that to reflash a stock car, you have to disconnect the battery cables and then quickly strike the cables against each other. Personally it sounds risky and I would not try it. You might try disconnecting the battery cables and letting it sit for a few hours to see if that does the trick. About all you'll lose is your radio presets.

I would buy the SCT X-Cal 2, it allows you to re-flash it yourself and makes a big improvement in performance for your car. It might cost you more but you can re-flash it as many times as necessary. And you do not need to disconnect the battery cables, it reccomend its however is not necessary.

the type of reflash you need is from the WDS it is the diagnostic tool that ford uses. sorry i wasent clear. it just like when you replace the cluster or the radio in our cars. the computer needs to be told what is in. give me a day i think i will go in and have my bud hook up to me to see if the software has been updated yet. when i was researching this out a year ago. the v6 didnt have the option. but with the addition of the pony grill the wds may now alow him to enable the smartbox. oh btw the refalsh you would need to for the smartbox not the ecm. as the sct does. basicly here is what you do. the WDS is hooked up to the port under the steering wheel. he then will enter your car info. and go to the moduel screen. it should be as easy as enableing the lights in the smartbox. should take all of 10 min to do. but with check in move to bay and such i would figure on min 1 hour at dealer. also they should be firmiliar with this thats why the dif in price i bet the others have no idea and will be on the phone with tech support.

reflash for fog lights...are you kidding?
I just put an AFE stage 1, that says it doesn't need a reflash, and my check engine light came on and said the car is too lean. I'm told to disco the batt for an hour and see if that clears the computer...
what a pain!

ok so just got back. looks like they are getting rid of the wds and updating to laptops for each service team. so after we hooked up the car found my vin and brought up the screen. still no acsess to enable the fogs. only thing we could figure is the 05 v6 had no need. so next time a 06 v6 or a gt comes up he will hook up to it and see if he can see it. so the vertict is still out on this one. and yes when we installed my afe we left the bat off for awhile and then rehooked it. you want to clear the computer and let it settle back in takes about 500 miles to really reset itself. also for the coment about the fogs and reflash yes as much of a pain it is the smartbox(located on the right side behind the kick) is a relay module and just like the global feature to lower the windows with the key fob it needs to be enabled. kinda sucks but thats the way it seams to be. only other option is to make like i have posted or get the street scene or other harness. and just tap into the switch like i did.

? anyway the bat only needs to diconnect long enought to discharge the caps. an hour should be plenty. you are just letting the computer relearn the car and how it drives.

...why would there be a fuse and relay in the relay box for fog lights and then no option to enable the relay?
