CAI question
Here is a question that I should probably log in under a fake name so everyone doesnt roll their eyes at me when I post anything again...Why do some of the CAI require a reflash or tune for our cars. I put CAI on my last two cars and didnt do either to them. Also does a CAI void any of our new car warranty? How about the "chips" for our cars that dont require a tune i.e JET Chips?? I dont find anything or anyone talking about them, are they junk. Newbie stuff I know but educate me my fellow forum members.

RE: CAI question
Certain CAI's cause the engine to run too lean and will trip the CEL and possibly cause other problems down the road. The ECU isn't able to adjust itself enough to counter the larger quantity of air, and that's why a re-tune is required.
There are CAI's out there that don't require a re-tune, but you won't get as much of a performance boost from them. That's basically the line you run. If you want more of a boost from the intake, then you get one that will require a reflash.
Hope that helps.

Wouldn't a CAI that doesn't require a tune or re-flash work even better with a tune or re-flash?

How about the new car warranty ?? And the JET CHIP ??

As far as noise, yeah, the CAI as Silvertible mentioned might adjust your exhaust note a hair. For instance, mine is a tad deeper now that I have an intake on, as well as it doesn't choke on itself at higher rpms like it used to.
