I had the day off and was bored. I have too many bills to pay at the moment, so no cash for mods, but I wanted to do soething, anything. I decided a little free "modifying" was in order. Winter is over, I don't need any extra weight over the rear axle, so I took out the spare tire.

I read ads on rear seat delete kits, one of them saying you could lose 40lbs by taking out the back seat. I didn't think it look that heavy, but what the heck. I removed the part you sit on, it is one piece, no tools required. That sucker is so light, with one hand you can easily throw it around, it weighs next to nothing. The seat backs require wrenching to get out, but they are so light it would also be a waste of time to remove them. The spare tire is much heavier than the rear seat.

I probably have more room to slide my mountain bike in the trunk, but I still need to remove the front wheel. Luckily it has a quick release wheel.

So for those of you thinking about removing the rear seat to lighten your car by 40 pounds, dream on. If you want to take a chance, the spare tire can remove a little bit of weight. I feel dumb thinking the rear seat had any substantial weight, but now I know better and thought I'd pass that little tidbit on.

nice i read somewhere up to 70lbs lol.. i guess they meant it gets rid of your kid too

yeah i took off the bottoms to, they are like pillows with a bottom lol. worthless! but the delete kit would keep me from having to tote around the sister and friends.....
