Default RE: Octane rating?

What an analogy!!!!

BUT, I stand by my original comment that the car is setup to run a certain octane (computer, emissions stuff, etc), and by running higher octane, all you are doing is wasting money and I would contend that your car may not be performing to its potential (too high an octane is NOT always a good thing). If you want to run higher octane, be my guest (or in this case, your parent's guest), but it may not be the best gas for the car.

As for the quality of the gas (which seems to be an accurate statement, as to the LOWER quality), I contend that there are only a few refineries and various brands are produced under the roof of ONE refinery. Back in the day, we all wanted SUNOCO 260, for the high octane and race heritage (back when we needed the high octane, unlike today). I would contend that now, the gas is all coming from a few select refineries. I doubt that today's SUNOCO or EXXON or TEXACO or the off brands (we have ZOOMS here in VA, it makes the cars and motorcycle run fine) is coming from the same spicket as other name brands.

Not trying to stir the pot, just wanted to comment further.
