So what you guys are saying is the AFE is worth getting?

because they are generally ~$575 and the xcal2 is $400 itself and c&l is like $300 so you would be saving a buttload

I had an AFE and I removed. I really didn'y notice any difference in power. I don't think that 11-12 make it to the wheels. I'll get crucified for saying it, but I like my K&N alot better.

I have a question that can easily be ignored if really stupid LOL.
It seems that the reason the AFE flows so much more air than the stock box is because it has much more surface area that is actually exposed to the air. What if you just cut out the bottom of the stock airbox, and eliminate that small restrictive hole in the side that air is sucked through, allowing more air into the stock tube that leads to the throttle body such as the AFE. Then replace the filter with a drop in K&N. The filter would still stay in place because it is held up by flat surfaces half way up the box. I know many people who I talked to who have done this on the old model F-150s etc (my previous car, well truck) and it seemed to work great! Is that at all a good idea for the mustangs?

nope you said i dont think big dif from dosent. the typhoon is a cool system. actually 2 of the heads of AFE came from k& n the one diff i know is that the afe has 1 more layer of filter material than the k&n.

I don't plan on getting a tuner. Just looking at numbers, for $600 you can get a Zex setup and get around 90HP. That's three times what the C&L gives you.
I want my stang to sound good, look intimidating, get some decent MPG, and when some a-hole revs his engine at the stop light, be the bigger man and pull off slow, letting him look stupid.
I added true duals and h pipe about a month ago and I love the difference in sound and I move very confidently within traffic. So I dont need the HP the Zex offers and if spending approx $200 on AFE will get the effect I want, that is much more appealing than $600 for a little more HP and a finer tune.

Honestly, it sounded better. Throttle response was better with the K&N FIPK. I felt there was little difference between the AFE and my drop-in filter. Afixer, I caught part of your post, but the first part is indeciferable. Could you tell me what you were thinking.
