Default tuning for altitude

First time post, was wondering if anyone had any experience with a re-flash that lives somewhere other than sea level. ( I live at 5000 ft. and drive a 7000 ft. pass every day). I am looking at getting a c&l cold air intake with JBA shorty headers and cat back dual exhaust and was wondering if anyone had a opinion on how well a "tuned"mustang will run at altitude. Will the computer just resopnd in the same way it does now when the air gets thin? I have got a inoviate Data logger to check air/fuel data (that will go in with the new exhaust) with to hopefully avoid any issues the altitude catch throws into the mix. Any sugestions?

which tuner did you talk to, have you done any of the tuning mods? I noticed that in your post you didn't lest any. They told you it would just correct itself?
Thanks

I got info from other members that live in the higher alts. I have a C&L and SCT2 now, I've been to about 5200 feet and saw no dif. no idiot lights either. where I live is close to sea level, so my car has seen the changes, I just may be lucky, talk to whoever you get the tuner from just to be sure

I'm in Colorado Springs, and have asked the question many times. Basically, you always lose power at altitude. However, you can run the best gas and increase the ignition advance a bit for accomdate for the loss. You will never get all the power back, though.

As far as driveability goes, the car will be fine. The MAF will adjust for altitude. If you have the advance set too high at a high altitude, the PCM will remove timing automatically if you go back to sea level.

thanks for the info, so you dont have to get a tune for altitude it will just change what aprameters in the map that it needs to on its own, thats good to know. I was just wondering if a tune would even be worth it but it sounds as if i will gain power as a ratio to what i am starting with at altitude. Thanks I will for sure tell the tuner that my car will be operating above sea level. I was going to get my c&l and tune from Doug at Bamachips but have not dicussed it with him yet. Still trying to decide on weither to go with the JBA axle back single or the single into dual kit they offer to go with their shorty headers. Thanks for your advice!

You might want to ask how much the MAF will adjust for. Just to be safe, it could be that when you're running on the "bleeding" edge of a tune, you'll get too rich at a lower elevation.

But to make you feel better, I had my dyno-tuned, and the tuner set the A/F at 12.1 I expressed concerned and he said not to worry, the car will automatically adjust if I ever went on a trip out of these damn mountains...
