Default 2005 RX8 vs. 06 V6

Ok guys, my buddy has a 2005 or 2006 RX8 with an AEM intake (which i believe to be worthless).....and of course he believes he is faster than me.

Here are some numbers i found for a manual (he has a manual as well).

2005 Mazda RX8
Horsepower 238 @ 8500 rpm
Torque (lb-ft) 159 @ 5500 rpm

Lookin at my mods below, what are my chances?

well look at it though he has 238 @ 8500 thats very high in the rpm range and you probably have 230 at like some where between 5 and 6k rpms and you tq is already more then theres the only factor is the weight of the car. I would go for it...are you manny or auto

Rotary engines dont make that much power in the lower rpms, you really have to scream them to go anywhere. Just make sure you launch well and hope he doesnt catch back up to you.

All depends how long the race is...the longer, the better for him. Manual RX-8's can be quick, if you know how to drive them...high 14's stock, auto RX-8's are total dogs however due to that they make all their power up in high rpm's and its a 4sp auto, so when it shifts it drops may down into low rpm's....sorta like the 4sp auto Celica GT-S, but not quite as bad.

i've got an AUTO and i'm thinkin that if i do race him it won't be very far lol.......like maybe 800 or 900 yards.....just from a redlight to this certain overpass.....

i know his manual is a quick little bugger but i think i've got him with the takeoff.

and oh yeah, i think he has a full exhaust system, but i'm not sure.

Short race like that you should have him..depends alot on his launch also, how good a driver he is, RX-8 isn't the easiest car to launch well...with an auto you don't have to worry about launching much, just do a brake stand till like 2k and launch.

I thought the manuals were 6 speeds, and the autos were 5 speeds for the RX-8?
