Default someone please explain

I am a little lost with the whole concept of supercharger, CAI, turbo, and all that mumbo jumbo. If the whole idea is to get forced cold air into the engine, why can't you just run a tube from the a/c unit right into the throttle body, or where ever it needs to go? Does the a/c tax the engine that much that it wouldn't be worth the gain. I know I need to take a mechanics class, I am really ignorant when it comes the the inner workings of the engine.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/supercharger2.htm There is a lot of other articles on that site that would be very beneficial for you to read and learn. Hope it helps. BTW in a nutshell, superchargers are a compressor, which means that air it takes in is pressurized. Like the air conditioner, a supercharger is powered by the accessory belt, but it's a lot different.

lol, using the a/c to cool air. The problem with that is it doesn't cool enough air quick enough, thats what we put intercoolers on s/c's or t/c's. the point of a CAI is to grab air from the fender which is the outside air come through wich is cooler obvously b/c your moving. The point of S/C's and T/C is to compress air and cram as much of it into the engine as possible, and you port it through an intercooler to cool it down b/c the force of the prepellar and the air creates friction(which in turn creates heat). Thats why you run that hot air through a intercooler.

Not bad for a 17 year gear head and i never took a mechanics class although i want too.
