GEARS!
Hey guys. I got a quick question.
Has anyone in here got new gears on their mustangs?
I think thats the first thing in gonna get done to my new 06 pony package auto matic astang?
Can someone tell me the gains that the mustang gets with the change of gears. And can
some one tell me what would be better for my 06 automatic stang? The 3.73 gears or the 4.10 gears.
whats the difference between the two and which is beter for the automatic. Whats the price on them and how much is it to install.
Thanks a lot guys. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you get gears .... you'll need to get a tuner - SCT2. That would laso eliminate throttle lag and gain alot more in performance. Gears 3.73 or 4.10's will run you - ball park $200 + install (figure about the same or a little more depending on shop) Tuner ( $400) . Lookin at about $800 +/- a bit for gears & tuner ---- but you will gain a whoooolee lot from that mod. If you really want to get a gain go for a t-lock (also about $200 ball park) and install will be almost included in the price since you are doing the gears at the same time.
Good luck either way. 3.73's are a little better on gas and noise if you do alot of highway driving 70+ mph. The 4.10's are real nice too - but rev higher rpm's and a little worse on gas. I have the 3.73's and I love them - I do however wonder how the 4.10's would feel with the blower though

Gears are great! But, as a first mod, I'd go with an SCT X-cal 2 tune. You'll need it for gears anyways. And, if you're getting gears, I'd install some sorta limited slip differential while the rear end is opened up.
I have 3.73s and love them. I agree with the others, get the LSD at the same time you do the gears. The Xcal-2 is a good idea too, otherwise your speedo will be off. I recommend BamaChips for the Xcal-2. WTH, while we're at it, let's go ahead and get a C&L CAI, lol! You do those 4 things and it will make a HUGE difference in the way your car drives. You'll love it.
I've got the ford racing 3.73 gears, and t-lok diff. Be sure and get the yukon rear end master install kit. This way you'll have every thing you need as far as bearings, shims, seals, gear marker for checking the gear pattern before you close it all up.

I went to my local dealer ship, they had done several allready and everything went smoothly. If you use ford parts, and have ford install there is coverage under the ford repair warrenty program. You might check with your dealership, and find what they charge for getting these parts, if its close to mail/web ordering. Go with the dealership, this way your upgrade will have the repair warrenty.. last time I checked it was for as long as you own the vehicle, but ask.
I like the sct x-cal2 tuner, it's easy to use, and will let you change your gear ratio in the car's computer so your speedo will be accurate.
The oem gearing is 3.31's and changing to 3.73's is a good adjustment. I do alot of hiway driving, so the 4.11's would really be to much and would cost more in gas and engine wear due to constant higher rpms.
I've noticed alot more acceration, and good throttle response. My stangs an auto, so I went with the Alternative Performace tune.

tomsa55, says right on their website, and any dealer shouldlet you know, that ANY ford racing part carries no warranty. I hope for your sake, maybe our dealer just offers it, but as rule, they carry no warranties.
with that being said, i have the 3.73 ford racing gears in my car, along with the detroit truetrac rearend. Tlok is fine for auto cars, or any manual trans car that doesnt plan on launchin hard on dr's or slicks.
