No synthetic till 30,000km?
got about 1500km on the car so far and was thinking about going straight to synthetic like Mobil 1 or Royal Purple. I talk to this guy at Midas and he says not to use synthetic till about 30,000km so the engine seats properly. Is that True?

"One of the myths that surrounds synthetic oils is that new engines require a break-in period with conventional oil. The fact is, current engine manufacturing technology does not require this break-in period. As indicated by the decisions of the engineers who design the high-performance cars listed above, Mobil 1 can be used starting the day you drive the car off the showroom floor. "
"Myth: I need to flush my engine before switching to Mobil 1.
Reality: No special preparation is necessary when switching from conventional motor oil to Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 Extended Performance."

RE: No synthetic till 30,000km?
My car has 7K miles on it. I have been using Motorcraft 5W30 synthetic blend and I`ve done two oil changes so far 3K and 6K. I do believe there is some myth involved on when to change over to synthetic lubricants. During break-in wear patterns are being established on moving parts. Your engine is just going to wear out the more miles that are put on it. So it makes sense that synthetic will save on wear the earlier you start using it.

You guys have any clue how many cars from the factory with Mobil1 already in? Or other synth's?
I give you one for starters, Corvette, been that way for over a decade.
By the way, I put Amsoil 0w-30 in at my first oil change at the recommendation of my tuner.

ummm... well you can't really compare a Vette motor with our 4.0L... LOL!
Based on my discussion with some Ford engineers our 4.0Ls don't really loosen up until around 10,000 miles... They said they were surpised it took so long and that around 10,000 miles I should pick up a couple extra MPG... sure enough... right around 9600 miles I picked up an extra 2 MPG.. He said for that reason I should run regular oil until 10,000 miles... which I did...
