Ok i hear alot about the tuners, air intakes, s/c, but is there anyone out there that has rebuilt the 4.0 with forged pistons, bigger cam shaft, intake manifold, heads etc... if so what is on the market for these engines? I know its a six but how is the bottom end built. Does it have a 2 bolt or 4 bolt main? Just wondering how long it will last thrrowing nitrous and a s/c at it without building up the bottom end first. Maybe its good stock.

As far as I know nobody on here has rebuilt YET. Many people plan on doing it, some prior to adding a power adder, some after but before really pushing the boost. This has been a hot topic and while this company Super Six appears to exaggerate how weak the bottom end is (after all they want to sell stuff) most people agree that if you really want to push it (past about 350 hp I think) you should look into rebuilding for the sake of your engines life.

I think Scrming may be one of the first to build an engine on these boards... there's been a few failures just recently with some major power adders, so we might start to see some builds very soon.

personally, I'd love to have a strong n/a stroker rather than a blower... or both! LOL!

Our motors are actually pretty tough... the weak point is the pistons... I ran a 75HP shot, then 100HP shot and then finally a 125HP shot of N20 before I lost a piston (still a guess but were 99.99% sure). I was spraying 125HP of N20 at around 2000 RPM making some insane torque... probably close to 500 ft/lbs! LOL! Right now we're putting in a lightly used motor... you see the problem with rebuilding the 4.0L is it is a complicated little motor... 4 timing chains, nothing is indexed, requires special tools, etc.... so the labor on the rebuild adds up very quickly! And it is something most guys, even one's who have done rebuild before, probably don't want to tackle at home.. LOL!

The bottom end is pretty good.. I had a ton of passes on the 100HP shot and my car would still probably be running strong if I had stuck with the 100HP.. LOL! So you can use N20 within reason... or boost with in reason... just make sure you get a good tune!

As far as my "broke" motor we'll probably start rebuilding it this winter... really the main thing will be pistons and rods...

Does anyone know if Powerhouse or Shelby or some other company that build a H.O. 4.0 Mustang have done any work to the engine internals?
