I have an auto, when I had a CAI, Tune, TLOK, 373, LCA, xpipe exhaust and Alt. Pulley I was running a 9.6 on the 1/8 mile, which is around high 14's. So 15 for bone stock is not shabby for an auto, and cudos for taking it to the track!!!!

Have you raced your car at the track jericho?

Ive yet to see a stock auto run faster than 15.6. most are in the high 15s to low 16s stock. 15.88 is actually a pretty good time if its an auto. I have a manual and the best i could do was 15.26 (1200+ft)
When i was bone stock i ran a 15.2@93 at Moroso down here. Its only like 20ft above sea level, so that's a huge factor...obviously temp & humidity are against us down here, and anyonw who goes there would tell you the track isn't the fastest. That was my best run of 4, the average was 15.4x i forget exactly with the worst a 15.5.

Here's the C&D article with 15.3, i have heard they don't really push cars, but i'm sure their track provides great conditions. Mag racing is useless IMO, but it gives you some idea what the car can do.

ya, altitude makes a good diff (mine is a 15.1x run at sealevel) and az gas is 15% ethonal or whatever. I would have loved to been on the east coast with some good gas and try to clock off a 14.99 bone stock. even my 14.5 run was at only 94mph, so that alone you can see how much is effected by altitude.

Back to topic!
The answer is compression.
And how much did you spend for your 'stang? ~20k? The 350z is about 26 for a base. and it has no back seat at all. And looks ugly. The new Civic si w/ the 2.0 V-Tec(k20) I think runs for about 22, and it has 197 hp and little torque.
Plus, none of these cars have the Mustang name, the car is a legend, about 95% of people in America know about it, how many people can tell you the name of the Z car from Nissan?!

Nice times guys, but anyway the answer is engineering, The import builders do better at getting HP out of cars, but they respond kinda poor to mods(like the 350Z) Also ford doesnt try with the V6...If a V6 could beat all the imports running around noone would buy a GT

also keep in mind that most of the imports have 4 Valve per cylinder to help with better flow and Variable valve timing to shift power band.
Our V6's are 2valve per cylinder without any variable valve timing.

The true name of the Z is the "Fairlady Z".

Ok, there has been one form of this thread in some way shape or form lately. Can we just put up a sticky that says "The 4.0 V6 is THE BASE MODEL MUSTANG, IT IS NOT MEANT, AS IN DESIGNED BY FORD, TO COMPETE WITH HIGH PERFROMANCE SPORTS CARS FROM EUROPE OR JAPAN".

The 4.0, is a good engine, but it is the base model engine.

I said it in an earlier post on this same subject: Did you want a Mustang? Yes. Did you buy a six cylinder? Yes. Then be quiet. You knew what you were getting into when you signed on the dotted line. Don't like it? Sell your car and get something else.
