Default Single GT muffler install

I found myself a set of takoffs, and plan to use only the RS initially. I've done a lot of reading here about exhaust mods lately (it's been a steep learning curve... two weeks ago I had no idea what anyone here was talking about. Now I know what an H-pipe is, what a hanger is for, and so on.)

I am noticing in some of the exhaust clips that the single GT takeoff muffler tip appears to nearly touch the bumper. I remember someone saying you need 1/4 inch of clearance for safety or they will melt. When I go to install mine next week am I likely to have any clearance issues with the larger GT muffler tip?

The hanger is what holds the muffler in place. If you don't have em, a muffler shop will. You won't need to hange your pipe if you're going single; however, I would suggest going duals if you have them both. There should not be clearance issues, I have 4" tips and mine still fit in the bumper. If you're in socal, try Speedway muffler.

Hey Ken Rogers, the install if pretty easy with the right tools. I swapped the v6 muffler for the gt muffler in about an hour. You will need a 13 mm wrench and a 15 mm wrench. The 13 mm wrench is for the 3 brackets on the v6 muffler. There are 3 brackets with 2 bolts each. The 15 mm is for the bracket on the end of the muffler that is holding on to the exhuast pipe. Unscrew this one first. Then the three brackets. Pull down on the muffler and wiggle it loose from the main pipe. Once the muffler is off, take the two bigger brackets off of the V6 muffler and put them on the GT muffler. Then reinstall the new muffler.
The difference in sound is really noticable. When I reinstalled my V6 muffler when I took the GT off, I couldn't believe how quiet the stock one is! I hope you enjoy your mufflers...dhl is picking them up any minute.

You shouldn't have any problems with the tip touching the bumper, I had plenty of clearance. The tip of the GT muffler is larger and looks alot better than the V6 muffler....Im sure youll love it!

You should be fine. If you run into clearance issues they can be resolved by loosening your pipe clamps just a little and wiggleling things arround until it fits and looks straight, then thigthen thinks up and voila!!!!

I agree. Mine touched the bumper at first, so I loosened the clamps and STOOD on the tailpipe (OK, I actually bounced the car while standing on the tailpipe). That gave me the clearance I needed. Then I tightened everything up and it was fine. The GT take-off muffler sounds great with the top up or down!

Thanks... I'm looking forward to receiving the mufflers from you. I didn't even have to leave the 4.0 forum to find GT mufflers!!!
