X-Charger
i'm thinking about the x-charger, just had a few questions
1. exactly how easy is the install? can i do it myself with only basic car mechanical knowledge? (if i had to bring it to the shop how much do you think it would cost?)
2. when do you think it will be available?
3. is the x-charger going to put alot of stress on the engine? (will it take away from reliability?)
i just got a 99 carolla for my highway miles for work so the stang is pretty much just my fun car, but i still want it to last a while and be reliable.
thanks for the help guys!

RE: X-Charger
1. it will be relatively easy, but if you dont know how to do it just get someone to do it. put it this way it will be cheaper to get it installed by another guy then if the same guy instaled the ph turbo...b/c of the time and work etc
2. 2-3 weeks is what the lady at Explorer Express told me.
3. No it will not. Our stock V6s can handle about 400hp without going all forged.

RE: X-Charger
it may be the best way to go for some. with about 250rwhp it makes the stang a fun reliable daily driver. but if you want mad power you might want to go with something that has a little more boost. like the PH turbo or procharger/vortech, the X/C runs 6psi those kits run up to 12psi depending on what you do. rygen is getting very good results with his turbo. and all the procharger guys are getting good results as well.

You can't really say any one form of FI is the "best way to go".
The things I don't like about systems like the X-Charger are:
- They're hard to effectively intercool, therefore limiting boost.
- They're always at or near peak boost, putting a lot of stress on the engine at lower RPMs
- Their pulleys are typically smaller, so belt slippage is more of a concern
The things I like:
- Look cool
- Low-end boost may put stress on the engine, but having boost low-end can be lots of fun.
- Quieter... if that's what you're looking for. I personally don't mind how the ProCharger "announces" itself!

RE: X-Charger
yeah ive heard that the procharger makes itself known...i was also looking at the $2,770 vortech kit with an 8 psi and non cooled....will that do anything for me or should i put in the extra grand and get a 10 psi pulley and cooled?

Roots is the most innefective way to add boost.
