Default Remote trunk problem solved

Several times I have walked the 150 feet from my back door to my 3 car detached garage to get something out of or put something into the trunk of my Mustang only to remember that I didn't bring the keys with me. Today I ordered an extra keyless remote on e-bay. It was only $20 including the shipping. I will Velcro it to the underside of the console lid. Actually, I could just hang it on the wall next to the car because that is the only place I would need it. Plus if one of the original remotes should break or get lost I will have a spare.

For those of you who are even a little bit mechanically inclined, try this trunk release button. It's a fun little project, a good conversation piece with other 05 - 07 Mustang owners, and it's really convenient:

If you purchase an OEM remote, it can be reprogramed by your current remote.

ford remotes can be programmed to any ford car that uses the same remote. So if you had a remote from a newer Ford taurus, you could program it to our mustang. All you have to do is keep holding the unlock button on the remote, and use the key to unlock the doors. It will auto-program.

I found that out in Newark when i asked the salesman why it didn't have remote entry. He explained that the car did, but since the remotes can be easily programmed they get stolen a lot.

The guy I ordered the new remote from said he would include instructions to program it. If anyone needs the instructions I will send them to you as soon as I receive them. I have a Mercury Sable and for that car you turn the ignation on and off 8 times within 10 seconds to program the remotes. Don't know if the Mustang is something like that or not but will find out when the remote arrives.

That sure seems simple enough. It is much easier than the Sable where you have to turn the ignition on and off 8 times within 10 seconds and end up in the on position. You have to be quick to do it that fast. It took me 3 tries before I made it.

I may go ahead and put a button in after all. It does sound like a fun project and a good conversion subject with other Mustang owners. I printed the instructions and as soon as it cools off I will tackle the project. Thanks for the link.
