Registration is also priced silly in CA. For no apparent reason, the newer the car, the more your yearly registration is. In New Jersey it was a flat fee which never got over $50. To register my Mustang this year in CA cost over $200. You'd think for owning a safe new car and investing in the local economy they'd cut ya a break, but no.

The information that BlueDevil posted is correct. If you already own the car when you move here you can register it. If the car meets the California emission requirements, you can register it. If it doesn't, but has at least 7500 miles on it, you can register it. A California resident attempting to bring in a car with less than 7500 miles on it that wasn't built to meet the California emissions won't be able to register it and it will be put on a permanent "black list" as well.

Before registering a car brought in from out of state, you also need to get it emission tested and bring the emission results to the DMV when you register it. I went through this a few years ago when I brought in an S2000 from Orgegon.

Here's a photo of where to find the emissions sticker:

And here's a photo of what it should say if the car meets the California emission requirement. Notice that the word "California" appears on the sticker.

Nice, Glad to see Ford is being smart, Now the California state government has to change the law to allow New cars in that are already compliant(Unless It already states that and I'm not sure on that). Oh well, 7500 mile or more for the moment isn't too bad as It protects the Ford dealers in California.

Ummm. BlueDevil and I both stated that that is the case. In other words, California does allow new cars that are compliant with the emission rules.
