Brain fart
I did the stupidest thing yesterday. I clean my airfilter every month, and I usually put a rag over the intake so no dust gets in. Well, I was heading out to this girl's house and totally forgot to put the filter back on and I still had the rag covering the intake. I get in the car and try and start it, starts then dies. I did it again and realized the problem, so I freak out thinking it sucked in the rag but thank God it didn't. No problems have come up because of the rag, but I felt like a complete retard.
I'm right there with you. The night I installed my C&L I wasn't sure how tight to attach the filter. The next morning I'm driving to work and I pull up to a stop light and the engine goes dead. I restart and it goes dead at the next light. The CEL is on and I'm freaking out. Limp it back home and find the air filter laying in the bottom of the engin bay. Thankfully I didn't lose it. But I wonder how many bugs got sucked into my motor that morning. I haven't had any trouble and that was a few months ago.
I went to put a few dollars of gas in my car a couple of days ago and didn't realize until today that I put 87 octane in and I'm running a 98 octane tune with as much timing as I could safely get away with. I didn't hear any knocking or pinging but then again my exhaust and gears are so loud i doubt I would have heard it anyway. I'm now wondering how many other times I filled up with 87 not paying attention. I now have an 87 octane tune in waiting to burn it all before filling up with 93 octane again. I have to pay more attention to what I'm doing. Fortunately the car still seems to run ok. Now if I can just figure out where the burnt antifreeze smell is coming from.
