Yeah I'm getting about 15 mpg but that's with mostly city driving and a really heavy foot. I'm hoping that my mpg will go up once my car breaks in some (at 1300 miles now) because my leadfoot isn't going anywhere!

I`m in the UK so I`m using 95 ron fuel and the onboard computer says I`m averaging 19 to 20. I`ve done 3,200 miles in the car. Most of my driving is suburban and a 10 mile run to work each morning at a steady 50 mph.
It`s a bit of a relief to see others getting the same milage as I am. I keep seeing posts on the UK mustang owners forum from GT owners claiming better mpg than my V6 and some of them are running superchargers!!!

I usually have my car run an average of 2000rpm...if you look in the owners manual, they suggest certain speeds to shift out of in each gear to maximize mileage...it works out to be a max rpm of 1500 in each gear...1500 in 5th is equivalent to just about 55mph...I typically drive 1st and 2nd to 2500rpm or so, and the rest up to 2000 or so...in my experience, though, it's not so good to shift out at 1500, mainly since the next gear starts at 1000 and this creates a ton of drag engine (might as well be towing a yacht with the car if you continually do that)

Most of my driving is 50MPH, not by choice. This means I'm stuck in fourth. I rarely see fifth. What is a good RPM to cruise at? I find that when I cruise below 2000 RPM the engine drones a lot and I get the urge to gear down.

If cruising at 1500RPM is OK, then I'll use fifth more, and maybe break 25MPG one of these days.

Ken
Whenever you cruise over 30mph you should get it into 5th for max efficiency. It may drone a little but it will maximise your mileage.

i drove to orlando from Ft. Lauderdale earlier this week, which is about 300 miles, more if anything. i got there on exactly half a tank of gas. so for those 8 gallons, i got 37.5 miles per gallon (300 divided by 8= 37.5). thats pretty damn good. all highway though. mods in sig...

I only did one road trip in my sixxer (auto) and I think it got 28. My typical mileage was in the 23-25 range driving about 75% freeway/ 25% in-town. Mostly it seemed to hit around 23.5 though. My GT is getting about 2 mpg worse, but it's not broken in yet.

Tres Wright, my V6 seems to get about the same mileage you were getting. Ford did a really good job on the V8 regarding gas mileage so you should be getting very close to your V6 mileage once she's got a few miles on.

Nice looking vert, BTW.

The gas gauge is not an accurate measurement. The only way to know for sure you only used 8 gallons is to fill it up and see what it takes.

My next long trip I'm going to drive like a granny and see what I get, anything over 25MPG even on the highway is crazy IMO

Man, I'm getting like 15 to 18 in the city. On the freeway I get like 22 but I don't do enough to balance it out. Glad to see I'm not alone.
