scrming: does it w/ the AC on or off; doesn't matter.

slowryde45: Here it says 4 times; I am on #2 so I am half way there! No windshield defroster isn't on; don't think I have even used the defroster yet
the A/C compressor will run even if the A/C light is off! Double check to make sure you have the selector **** in the "off" position which is straight up.

The problem has now escalated to a burning smell. When I shut my car off and step outside I can smell a slight burning smell. Hard to describe it. I took it to the dealer this morning and they said if the problem gets worse bring it back. It's like your car has to be totally out of commision in order for them to even look at it. Anybody have any idea waht the burning smell could be? I know its not the clutch unless for some reason the clutch is misaligned and it's not totally engaged when I don't have my foot on the pedal.

Mine did that too; the first dealership said it was the clutch not fully disengaging; basically I was burning up my clutch. Even w/ my 3rd tranny I am really glad I bought the extended warranty!

the reason it revs up is because the computer is registering tire speed, relavtive to your rpm.. and its not clueing in that your in neutral.. ever notice when your in 5th and slow down really slow to a speed your suppost to be in 2nd or 3rd.. your rpms stay at 1000.. well the computer is essentially slippping your clutch so you dont stall it.. it will stall when you come to a completly stop

I am having a similar problem and it is driving me insane. When I am stopped the idle drops from 750 to 500 and bogs a bit then moves back up. Every once in a while it will die when it dips down. I had questioned whether it might be the clutch engaging and disengaging...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to get this figured out.

my car is an 06 v6 manual and i had something similar, ironically the weather was incredibly hot at the time. i live in southern california, it did this at the hottest times of the day with the air conditiong on or off. i asked my custom shop about it, no tthe dealer, and they said that its normal especially in really really hot weather, this was 100 + degree weather and we are talking noon to 6 times. that said i am watching for it, however the weather has chilled out and i havent seen it since, just a thought and my experience.

im watching this thread with intrest

wells whats hapening is the fluid in your clutch line igets soooo hot that its expanding. applying and disengaging your clutch.. but its all about the computer for y our revs.. because your clutch is in.. which is basically like putting it in neautral

I know what you're talking about and that's not what's going on. I'll be driving 55 MPH and I'll see a red light. Ill push the clutch in, shift to neutral, take foot off the clutch, and coast to a stop. WHILE IM ALREADY IN NEUTRAL COASTING, the RPMs do not stay constant like they should, they move up and down between 1000 and 2000. Why this is happening I do not know.

Update (in case anyone is interested): My car has now been @ the dealership for 5 days
Just got off the phone w/ them and they have replaced my tranny, but b/c the clutch was "hanging" my clutch plate is very worn (after 3 months!) so they have to replace my clutch plate. He said he ordered it from the manuf. and has no idea when it will come in; so basically I could be w/o my car . . .forever [:@]

Those of you w/ the burning smell and problems shifting might want to get the dealer to check the wear on your clutch plate!
