Huge Problem - Advice needed
I created a new thread because this problem has evolved into a much bigger one.
Origional Thread:
The dealership came back and said it is the clutch after telling me it wasnt. But they are refusing to fix it. They've told me it is out of warranty, when the sales guy that sold me the vehicle told me that I am fully covered with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. The dealership has told me the clutch is only covered up to 12,000 miles or 12 months, which was never explained when I bought the vehicle.
Not only that, they are trying to also tell me the clutch has been abused. (Keep in mind they havent taken it apart yet.)
Sure i've raced my car a few times. (about 5 - 7 times to be exact) And I have pushed it on the freeway before. But that should be no excuse at all for the clutch going out after 16,000 miles. I know people that have pushed dodge neons harder than that, and they havent had a problem.
If havent found anyone else with clutch problems after only 16000 miles on here yet, and I know a lot of you do push your cars to the max.
Any and All advice will be helpful.
Origional Thread:
Yesterday I took my car into the dealership because they thought the clutch was going out. (If I accelerated gently, the car was fine... However if you pushed it, the RPMs shot up and the car hardly accelerated.)
So the dealership called me today, and said its not the clutch. They dont know what it is. They were going to take it out for another test drive, but im afraid the technician is going to sit there and accelerate like an old granny.
This car is built for speed, I should be able to push it, and it should go.
Im afraid there going to give it back to me and try to tell me there is nothing wrong with it.
The car only has 16,000 miles on it, so the fact that im having any problems is bothersome.

Clutches are consider a normal wear part and are convered under the 12/12,000 warranty... suck, I know... well, i bought a jeep once and the clutch went out at about 12,500 miles... dealership wasn't going to warranty it because it was a "normal wear" part and wasn't covered... (yes, I had been very hard on it.. buy hey, it was a Jeep! LOL!). I argued the 12,500 is not normal!!! Something is wrong! Lots of heated phone calls... took about 2 weeks are arguing back and forth but they finally warrantied it! So... i guess my advice is go in there... make a big stink... yes, sometimes it's ok to raise your voice! Some times yelling is all these guys understand! Tell them 16,000 miles NOT normal and tell them to prove it to you that you have abused your clutch. Go up the food chain if you are not getting the proper attention... Also demand that they bring in a factory rep to explain to you how 16,000 miles is normal or have him show you how the clutch was abused...
argh...
ok... good luck! keep us posted!
When you bought the car, you were probably told it was covered under the original 36/36,000 warranty. This warranty stipulates that clutches are covered for 12,000. You needed to read the warranty, cover to cover, to understand what you were getting. If you didn't do that, now you get a suprise. Everybody understands when they are told "this car has a 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty" that there are exceptions, and you need to read it.
I think you're SOL.

Back when I had the Roadrunner with the stock 3.23 gears I was always putting clutches in, although, I raced it a bit more than you have raced your Mustang. Once I put the 3.91s in I never had to replace a clutch again, so you might look at this as an opportunity to put in a really good aftermarket clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing along with those 3.73 gears you've been wanting. BTW, there isn't any reason to have Ford do the clutch job, you can probably get a better price at some other shop and the warranty will be exactly the same. Or better yet, invite some buddies over buy some beer and pizza and have a clutch party. Just don't let them have the beer and pizza until after the clutch is installed. [sm=smiley2.gif]

Well if I do go ahead and get a new clutch, its going to be aftermarket. What kind of performance clutches would you guys recommend?
I'd also be interested in installing it myself if anyone has any experience, i've got time, and some knowledge of cars. I just need to know what kind of tools I would need to perform the job.

Yeah, tell me about it.... Just looked around online. I cant find any for the V6, I've found a couple for GT's, if there is a way to make it work.
