Wheels question
I dont understand what you mean by backspacing, I am a woman who doesnt understand cars much that wants nicer wheels and saw a set of wheels with tires all ready on them, the specs say this P235/55 ZR17 TIRES, wondered if I could just take my p215/65/r16 off and put them on without any other modifications or where can I get 16" rims that are the ones like the gt bullet wheels?
As long as they are 2005 or higher rims they will fit. I don't know the measurments off the top of my head for the 05+ cars. The rims and tires I have came off a 2006 GT with less then 10 miles on it...I got them all for saleens amazing $299 deal back in the summer. That deal no longer exists but they can be found other places for around $500. I do have my stockers but im working on just dumping them because they have curb rash on them and the tires are shot...I replaced the skinny spare tire with one of my old full size ones in the trunk. Im just gunna hold on to the original spare...and as for the other 3...I don't really care what happens to them.

The âspecsâ (p215/65/r16) on your tires tells us quite a bit about your tires but only one thing about your rims. At this point all you need to know about those rims on your car is they are 16 inch and they came off a 2005-07 Mustang. (you know these things by the last number on your tires and itâs your car)
Letâs break down what your tire is telling us: (this not is NOT an exact science but more a rule of thumb) The first number on your tire (p215/65/r16) is how wide your tire is. Bigger the number here the wider the tire will be. The second number is the aspect ratio. (p215/65/r16) Meaning your side wall (from the tread to the rim of the tire) is equal to 65% of the width (215 in your case) bigger number here means taller tire based on width. The last number (p215/65/r16) tells us what size rim these tire will fit on. YOU CAN NOT MIX TIRE AND RIM SIZE! 16â tires must be used with 16â rims, and 17â tire MUST be used 17â rims and so on for any size tire or rim on any vehicle.
The ârâ is a speed rating of that tire.
M = 81
N = 87
P = 93
Q = 99
R = 106
S = 112
T = 118
U = 124
H = 130
V = 149
Z = 149+
There are more but most cars canât reach even these speeds. (if your car can and you need to be reading this, wellâŚâŚ lol)
Now for what rims fit your car;
ANY rim that will fit ANY 2005+ Mustang will fir your car period. This is because your car came with the smallest rims and brakes available of our cars. Back spacing is a measurement of rims from the back sideâs lip to inside the mounting flange. This measurement is used to inform us how far in or out the rim will be when mounted on a car. The bigger the number here the more inward the rim will be in relation to the carâs body.
Pre 2005 Mustang stock rims have the same bolt pattern and WILL bolt up but they will stick out about an inch further then stock 2005+ rims. When you get to larger rims and tires there may be fitting issues.
I didnât get into rim width here as I thought I was getting long winded enoughâŚ..
There are great articles that could have explain this much better them me, but I was practicing my typing skills.
FYI We can put 285/30/20 all the way around on our cars (but I didnât like the way it drove) I currently run 255/35/20 on the front and 285/30/20 rear. The fronts are about 1/2â taller but about 2â narrower than the back tires.
Whew! 05SDI
