Default Milage Question

Alright, if this question has been asked and answered, then please direct me to the right place.

I filled up my car on Thursday, the trip odometer said I had about 270 miles toempty. I've driven 119 miles on this tank of gas and am already on a quarter tank of gas. I haven't done any speeding, beyond what I normally do (heh), and it's perplexing to me. I mean I'm driving the same as I was back inJanuary. so what gives?

Something ain't right.

On a full tank you should see approx "400 miles to empty"...

Unless you do ALL city driving.

Did you change gears or tires?

Running in 4th not 5th?

Drive like me? (actually I average 24-25)

auto trans, some city driving, i tend to try to get on the freeway.

if you look at my sig, you'll see i'm bone stock.

this happened a few weeks ago, and i thought maybe someone siphoned my gas while i was at work, but the alarm would scare someone off.

when i fill up it usually says 275 - 305 till empty ....avg would be 285.....i always fill up when i have 50 miiles till empty......could this be that gas tank issue i have read of.....my mileage is fine 17.9 in the city...avg speed a whopping 27 mph.....LOL

Yeah, the average speed on mine reads like 24 or 38 MPH .
Just not right. My speed averages well over that.
I usually don't go any less than 40 and in most cases 50 or more MPH.
I'd sure like to hear the technical explanation of how they designed the software to average speed that way. Seems silly to me as it should average the actual speed I drive most of the time between fill ups.
Maybe I'll ask Ford next time I get a chance to talk to the Mustang team via my service manager.

your avg speed also adds in the 0mph that you're at when you pull up to a stop sign or stop light. I don't have that on my stang but my last car was a 2000 Monte Carlo LS (it got t-boned in the passenger door) and it had it. when I reset it on the freeway it stayed high till I had to stop when I was getting off the freeway. Then It plummeted to the 20 - 40 mph range almost immediately.

Just this tank of fuel? Maybe you got a bad batch of fuel. I get back gas mileage, but not that bad! I get like 60 miles/quarter tank..

I was thinking that this had something to do with getting bigger gears and a hot tune. But now I see people with no mods are having the same problem. Because, before I got the mod bug!I use to get my gas tank filled and it would say 250 to emptyand 17-19mpg, city. Now I get 211 to empty and 12-14mpg, city. But now my car is very fast with the tune/gears[sm=gears.gif]
