I would do the basic suspension upgrades for the car(shocks, struts & springs) and toss some better brakes on at least the front (if not all four corners).

you're gonna want a locker or an lsd(tlok) like chris said so you can actually hook. You might want to get some lower control arms and possible upper control arm as they will help handling and traction. You could do a whole big brake kit, but if you get the gt front brakes you will have the same setup as a gt all around and that only costs like 250 bucks. I would recomend you get an aluminum driveshaft if you have the extra money.

I would also recommend an aluminum drive shaft.

for the driveshaft? if that's what you're asking about, then powerhouse is a great company for them. Their site has been acting real odd lately, but check out powerhouse411.net. If it's not showing products (it hasn't been lately) just get the number from there and give em a call. They are a great company and i beleive they are the same price as anyone else's driveshafts. If you are looking for more handling, you could do sway bars and maybe a strut tower brace for fairly cheap. My car handles noticably better than the 06 standard i drove. I have the pony package, which is a bunch of stuff with the gt sway bars, and you can get those cheap. The list of stuff im going to order either next week or the week after to prepare for forced induction (probably turbo, but still kinda confused onwhat i want) is

Lower control arms
Upper control arm
8.8" rear end with the 3.55:1s
aluminum driveshaft, probably from powerhouse
gauges from somewhere with a pod
and i think im gonna get a set of some street legal drag radials too...then im probably gonna get the gt front brakes after i finish my f/i setup. Hope that helps...

I want to go this route as well, I set the car up first to be ready for the S/C. I put on LCA's, T-Loc better pads and front rotors and 3.73 gears. Next is Alum drive shaft with loops. 7.5 rear end will handle upto 450HP.
