Default Thoughts on muffler spacing

Anyone know what the minimum safe distance your muffler should be from the bumper for heat issues? I installed a single GT take off last night and the stainless steel tip just seems really close, like around 3/8 of an inch close. Maybe that’s OK, but thought I would ask before I melt my bumper. If that is too close, what exactly do you do to correct this?

Thanks

I had this same question a year ago. I've got 3/8 inch also. That is enough. You definitely don't want contact. Does your tailpipe look centered? Mine isn't quite perfect, it is to the side. I might take it to a shop and give the guy 20 bucks or something to try and straighten it. Here's mine:

Alright thanks Ken. Mine looks pretty centered. Maybe slightly to one side but nothing you can see unless you are really looking close. Definitely can understand how that would nag at you though.

I see that you are new to the forum, welcome. When you get a chance, you should post some pics of your Stang.

The GT single sounds great. It's not a loud exhaust, but a huge improvement over the stock muffler. someone here suggested that if you're over 30, get a GT takeoff. If you're under 30, get a MAC, JBA, magnaflow, etc. Here's some pictures showing how far it sticks out. A little too far, but I kind of like it.

Yep, i second Ken Rogers on that. It sounds a whole lot better then stock. And it definitely isn't too crazy. (I like that under/over 30 rule) But really noticable on start up and when you get on it.

Kens pictures show exactly what the difference is. It sticks out a little, but i like that too. So much that i have scrapped my thoughts on the GT rear bumper in place of just nothcing my V6 for duels. After driving around with just the single this week, i am pretty excited to get a duel set up on!

And yeah it is a direct fit. Well, the stock V6 uses 3 hangers and the GT only has 2. So you just have to remove the extra one.

Oh yeah, thanks for the welcome Ken. I will have to get some pictures up.
