Cold Air Intake question

RE: Cold Air Intake question
The difference between a no tune and required tune can be quite a bit. My research showed that on average, feel free to correct me if I am incorrect, those that do not require a tune only increase a HP by 3-5 and sometimes a little more. Those the require a tune can give you between 10-15 hp gain. I know that manufacturers claim higher numbers, but like I said, these are average numbers. Also, not tuning your comp to handle a CAI can cause the check engine light to come on. This is caused by the MAF reading a lean mix. ie. more air than fuel. This will then affect your emissions as well. I got one of my cars smogged as a test while it was running lean, and it failed. As you know, Sancho805, living in Cali, they are tough on emissions. If this problem has been corrected, I have not heard about it.
I personally am saving money to get a C&L and a tune.
I hope this helps.

RE: Cold Air Intake question
thanks mark...i guess that from a "Must tune" intake, i might not experience a big difference from tunes that come standard on a programmer but it does have more potential when it comes down to custom tuning. is C&L the best "must tune" intake out there? i'm assuming it is and will now focus my savings on getting one. i dont regret my AEM, as i'm sure its doing a superb job filtering but like i said before, C&L did not come out with their 4.0 version until after i already purchased my AEM. also, i would never plan on running any intake without a tune as i know the two are meant for eachother but if i have to take my car in to the dealership for whatever reason, will returning the tune to stock hurt my car with a "must tune" intake?

RE: Cold Air Intake question
if you have the money definatly go for the C and L with tune. but for some that are financially challenged( me) i went a bit cheaper way but am compleley happy with my purchase. i got the MRT CAI and you definatly notice a difference in throttle response and your car pulls a bit more. i dont have the cash to dyno my car at the moment but when i emailed MRT they dyno'd it on a stock 4.0v6 and it gave them 12 the first time and 14 the second time. its not super cheap still was 378 with tax and all but hey, im happy and it looks sexy as hell under the hood.

RE: Cold Air Intake question
I know many of the V6 guys don't have a lot of money to spend on performance parts, that is why I made my intake kit upgradeable. You can buy the VMP maf housing and filter now for 99, then add the C&L tube and heat shield later on for 199.

RE: Cold Air Intake question
ur options seem pretty solid justin. but since i already replaced my stock setup with the AEM, i might as well just get the whole C&L kit. what kind of gains can i expect from one of your 91 tunes, C&L, and my dual h-pipe exhaust? i'm in southern cali and 93 is not an option around here. 91 is as high as it goes.
