umm doing that in an auto will just toast your torque converter....not a good idea. Just think, when you have the engine spinning at 2000 rpms and the wheels cant spin, somethings got to give.....And the brake on an auto does disengage anything....so pretty much its a bad story. Thats why manuals rule

It will if you do this constantly, and with a large hp engine.. I doubt a stock v6 mustang would really toast its t.c. and if it did, i bet he would have to rev the **** out of it all day long to **** it up... but just my 2cents...
do whatcha want, good luck with whatever technique you pick..
btw its 12:30pm. i need to get to bed.. ack!

What does your single sound like? I have the full duals.
You'll have to practice a bit with the automatic launch.
I don't press the throttle all the way to the floor when shifting manually. For some reason the auto tranny doesn't want to shift into the next gear at redline (usually goes a bit higher and you lose speed the next gear could have given you)... weird.
I used to just burn them up if I used tyzorg's routine (worked for my old FMX tranny though).
Torque it up and back off. When launching, let the break up and SMOOTHLY add power. With a stock axle you will still break the tire loose if flooring it.
Now, I have a T-LOC andflooring itis not a problem.
Practice, Practice, Practice...
SOHC
PS: A friend with a video camera can help in catching your runs for viewing later. Tire squeal, low rpm, etc etc. You can fine tune your launches.

From what I've read, heard, and done myself I can definitely say that Neutral Dumping is a particularly awful idea. If you haven't been down a track before the best way in an Automatic is to just punch it and let it run the gears itself. Of course with a tune the shifting will be even better.... but still, don't go shifting themyourself unless you've had a lot of practice and can do it consistently.
