Default 3.73 / 4.10 QUESTION

do you guys who have either of these gears installed experience problems with your speedometer? do they keep keep your car at excessive high RPMs all the time? how much MPG do you lose? i'm considering purchasing the 3.73s and just need some direct info from owners. also, how much "GO" do i lose on the highway?

They do higher your rpms but not by to much, if you have a tuner you can just put in that you have a 3.73 gear ratio or 4.10 ratio and it will adjust your speedometer so its not off.

i read from other posts that they end up spending a total of around $5-600 with parts and labor. just want to know which parts i need so the shop doesn't charge me their price.

I have 3.73's and the speedo was recalibated with my tuner 2 minute process. The RPM's go up by a few but not noticable. You may see 200 rpm increase at crusing speed. My MPG only went down by .2 MPG (thats point 2). I've had mine up to 110 on the freeway and it still had go. I know that the larger gears take some top end but the low and middle is where your at most of the time. When are you going past 110?

Yes, you should do a limited slip differential (t-lock, Detroit Tru-Trac, or Auburn) at the same time as the 7.5" gears. You'll need a Bearing Kit (which has the shims), and differential fluid (Royal Purple has the friction modifier in it already if you go with an LSD).

I love my 4.10's BTW...

Meybe just think about the 8.8 rear end with all the labor but you would still need to have the gears done.

YES please consider T-loc (Ford Racing) slip diffential with the gears !! It is half the fun. With T-loc you will get power to BOTH wheels instead on one and the car will handle MUCH better when you get on it to play with the gears!!! It is only a few hundred more but WELL woth it!!
