my dad is so concerned because on the first car i had, a ford escape, the catilytic converters blew up or something. i got them fixed at a shop, but they blew up again! wtf??? so my dad doesnt want me taking any risks on this amazing car.
thanks for all the responses, chris
Okay, first of all, from a parent's point of view: teenager+sports car = bad

Second, the GT takeoff muffler is one of the few mods I'd let my teen driver do, because it is so harmless. Unbolt old muffler, bolt on new muffler, and that's it. There's a slight decrease in backpressure, which should (using my parental-form of logic) actually relieve pressure on the catalytic converters and help them to last longer.

Just remember..... teen driver + sports car + (think before you act) = not so bad [8D]

my parents are concerned that if i put a gt takeoff muffler on my 2005 v6 mustang, it might somehow interfere with my catalytic converters. can somebody post something to clear this up for them?
thanks, chris
the cats are WWWAAAAYYYYYYY up front, the muffler is WWWAAAAYYYYYY out back, separated by 6' of exhaust pipe. A new muffler will have no bearing at all on the cats. In fact, as someone else posted, a new performance muffler will actually decrease back pressure. Possibly making your cats last longer, while improving fuel mileage slightly. It's like changing your shoes, it will make no difference to your hat.

chris, I am a parent of a teenager (she drives a Focus) so I understand their concern when it comes to messing with cars that may void the warranty or not pass state inspection.
I just had duals put on a couple of weeks ago, andwas concerned at first that the cats would be tampered but like many have posted before me, they aren't affected by the GT mufflers. I love they way they look and sound now!
