I dont get the guys who say that the X makes great low end power, then when people ask them if that is bad, then they say that they dont make that the low end power is limited because the bypass [&:] (and almost all superchargers have bypass vales, including the ProCharger and Vortech)

The best thing to do is to ride in a car with a roots charger and a centri charger. It does not need to be a 4.0 mustang, it doesnt even need to be a mustang. Just get a feel of how the power comes on, and base your decision on that. That is exactly what I did. I was really close to buying an X because everybody was raving about it, but after riding/driving a few different cars with either types of chargers, I decided the Centri was best for me. The forums are too populated with bias opinions that either go all one way, or all the other way.
that's interesting that you rode in that many roots charged cars and didn't feel that the by-pass valve closes when you reach a certain throttle position, not rpm. If you floor it off the line, you will be in boost isntantly and make peak boost extremely quickly. With a centrifugal you will reach peak boost at redline or very close to it, depending on the setup, but with a roots blower you will reach peak boost alot earlier, and turbo's will reach peak boost quicker also. i agree with your advice to go test drive them, but try to drive something similar.

if the x charger reaches boost almost instantly then why does the prochargers and vortechs get better 1/4 mile times?

because the vortechs and prochargers are moving more air volume at a given psi due to heat, and in the usable rpm range, power delivery isn't all that different. THe main time you will notice the difference in power delivery is when you floor it in a gear u are cruising in between say, 2k-3k.

I do not reach peak boost only at redline. If it wasnt so frickin dangerous to be starting at the gauges while doing a 0-60 run I could tell you where I reach boost levels [&:]

Not sure the above is always true.My car with the Procharger was launched at 4500+ rpms, well into boost off the line. Being a centri didn't matter under those conditions.

I've driven both, and can tell you its very easy to stay out of boost with the X. I've also driven a centri and its easy to stay out of boost as well. In fact, with all FI options, its easy to stay out of boost and reduce wear and tear on your car. I'm a fan of all of them to be honest.

There are only two people I know running the X at the track, both with wet kits and the 2.8 pulley. They run 13.2's. Pound for the pound, the X is doing more than holding its own. I know of 3 centri cars in the 12's, one was running 14lbs of boost (army), the 2nd one was running 12lbs I think but had a good tune (ranebowcyxx) and the last one was running I think 12 lbs, race gas and open exhaust and leaning on the car.

When you really compare it, non intercooled to non intercooled, or lb for lb, its doing more than holding its own. I do know this, sooner or later, someone is going to intercool the X, and then all hell is going to break loose.

I will say this, driving both, the X has it off the line and into the middle of the powerband. The centri has it on the top end big time. The centris really pull hard on the top end. To get a centri to kick some *** at the track, a tall gear is strongly suggested. Either way, you can't go wrong with any of the kits really.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

I have to agree on this one....esp on the highway at 2200 RPMs and I puch the gas and the Whipple (twin screw) kicks in and this is in fifth gear mind you....great feeling.

Jsierzega- IMHO it is personal preference as to which gear to choose with a S/C (or any FI). What will you use the car for? Is it a DD or a track car ? I am going to run 4:10's with a stick and I have a twin screw S/C. (big torque at 3000 RPM's) Some say if it is a stick go with the 4:10's and if it is an auto go with the 3:73's.

For ET hunting, yes. It gets the centri into boost faster from a launch. On the street, you may want 28in tires though with those 4.10s.
