Default K&N drop in = louder exhaust?

I have an05 6er with a single GT t ake off. I put in a K&N drop in filter the other day, and I noticed the sound of my exhaust has gotten a little bit louder. Before I could not hear the exhaust in idle from inside the car with the windows up, now I can. And it sounds great with the windows open. Also for the first time I heard what my car sounds like from the ouside since I put in the exhaust. I took it to get washed (place in town that handwashes) and I was impressed. And that was right beforeI bought the K&N.

Anyway, anybody else have this happen?

Um, I put a drop-in K&N after I got my exhaust and really didnt notice any change. I mean, I got like +1 mpg and never had to change my filter...but as far as the exhaust tone is concerned...didnt notice anything. Thats cool though you noticed a change. Hope you enjoy your drop in.

maybe someone secretely put an exhaust system on there for you while you werent looking[8D].
i didnt think that a drop in filter would do much for sound but thats cool if it did

it's possible that if the K&N filter is a little less restrictive you are hearing a little extra sound from the intake maybe ?

I installed a Brenspeed 93 tune the same time I got the K&N drop-in. I noticed a louder and throatier exhaust note from my GT take-off!

The thing I'd like to know before I buy one is does a K&N filter really make any noticeable difference in performance over the stock filter?

Yeah, it's as good as a non-tunable cai and about 1/4th the cost. Probably gain 4-8rwhp from it. Good Luck!
