Default 2005 gas tank issues

Hi everyone,

My name is Candy and I just bought my first Mustang.
It is a 2005 V6. I've read the forum and figured out that
my mustang has that famous "Gas tank" fill problem.
I have a question? When all of you were experiencing
that problem did you get a message on the dashboard...
Something like "low fuel...DTI FLI Fuel Err"
Not sure the exact wording but I've noticed that
it will read my gas and then it just turns red and
displays that message.
Thanks,
Candy

Welcome Candy! No, I don't recall ever receiving that error prompt on my dash. I did have the infamous '05 tank problem and had it fixed a few months after getting the car.

Hi Candy,
I've had all sorts of problems with my gas tank. First, the gas pump would constantly shut off whenever I was trying to fill my tank. So I took it back to Ford. They said that there was a technical service bulletin out on it, so they replaced the tank. Then my gauges went nuts and started showing all kinds of inappropriate messages, like low oil, traction control off, low fuel and the turn signal indicators didn't work. So I took it in again. They replaced the gauge cluster. Next the gas pump started shuttingoff again. They said it was a problem with a vent. Another new fuel tank. Finally the car started running out of gas when the gauge said that there was plenty in the tank. This was caused by bad gas tank sensors. One wouldn't think that building a good gas tank and sensors would be that tough, but I guess it is.
On the bright side, none of this work cost me anything. I have a great dealership here and they really take care of people. The times that I took it in on fuel related issues, I found that the gas tank had been partialy filled. Every time I took it in they would wash it for me and keep it inside. I have no complaints about the dealership. The cars not bad either, once they got the kinks out of it.
I don't think that you have too many options other than to take it in. Best of luck.

Thanks!
the other person that talks about the problem says that it was multiple things on the dashboard
mine is just the "DTE FLI DATE ERR"
I'm assuming by reading the threads that this isn't a mechanical issue,
like if I drive it like this I am somehow screwing the car up?
I just want to drive it like this in order to learn its habits..
Someone said to disconnect the battery for 15 min...to reset the computer
once you reconnect the battery does the computer automatically reset?

Disconnecting the battery is a very good idea. It resets the electronics. I had to do that to mine. It probably won't fix the problem, but it might give you some relief for a while.

Thanks guys!
Heres the issue, I didnt buy my car from a Ford dealership. My dad's friend owns a car lot and he got the car for me at an unbelievable price that no one around here could beat. My price was 11, 500. So I called Ford this morning and since they said that the car is out of warranty I will have to pay for any "diagnosing and servicing" it may need. Which is fine, I purchased an extended warranty from the bank thats financing me and it covers the next 50,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first. Only problem is that I've only owned the car for one day and the warranty doesn't kick in till 30 days and 1000 miles.

Does running the car like this damage it in any way?
