Default changing oil

Hey guys ive been planning to change my oil for quite a while now.. now that im going to do so im going to use royal purple but I was wondering what weight I should use..
im not too fimiliar with oil weights but i know it has to do with temperature, so if it helps any, being here in fort myers florida the lowest temperature we will probably see is 50 degrees F and highest about 105F so whats a good Royal Purple weight to use.... also I need to change my rear end diff fluid as well as my t-loc fluid, ive never done either, does anyone know what oil i use plus some type of additive or something? thanks for all your help, yall rock =D

If you live in florida and use synthetic then you can probably use 10w30 year round . I know the specs. call for a 5w30 but I think thats for regular oil and I would also say for regular oil in the winter time where theres more of a temperature drop than florida. If you use regular oil where it get's pretty hot in the summer I'm not really sure if 5w30 is such a good idea.

first number is the viscosity/weight of the oil in cold weather (winter), thus the 'W' on the first number.
Second number is the viscosity/weight of the oil when it's at operating temperature (meaning motor temp)
5w-30 vs 10w-30
5w-30 has higher flowability at lower temperatures than the 10w-30 but it's the same for both at operating temperature.

for oil use what ever ford recomends for the motors (i think its 530) ive run all kinds of different stuff throught out different cars and really a synthetic blend like mobile 7500 will really be good enough and last about 4k, RP says 15k but your filter isnt going to last that long,

in reality from my own conclusions (not biased test results)there really isnt to big of a difference between many of these but i just use the blend cause i drive alot and it lasts a little bit longer

you need an LSD additive for the rear

In the above post I looked at the picture of the invoice and the part # for the oil was X05W20QSP. I just had my first 5000 maintenance appt. at the dealership done for free but the part number I got was 5W20M ---(not 5w30 like the owners manual says). Am I correct in assuming the X05W20QSP = (synthetic or synthetic blend) and the 5W20M is regular oil? Anybody know?

I also noticed that on 157db's invoice it said Qty = 5 but on mine I got a Qty = 6. What's up with that??? 1quart of(synthetic/synthetic blend) should equal 1 quart of regular oil, I mean come on that's just common sense.

Mine is a V6 too. Don't understand the differences here.....

To see how the individual oils and engine are holding up the best thing to do is to take a smple and send it to a lab. I used blackstone labs in the past, for 20 dollars they will tell you how the engine is wearing and how the oil is breaking down....

Not sure about the QTY or the 5W20M instead of the QSP but you
got hosed like I did. Raise a stink and its good for free oil changes
as long as you own the vehicle. What they write down could be
different from what actually goes in.
Theqty 6 instead of 5 indicates to me that the service manager or "tech"
thought you had a GT with a V8 in it and just wrote down 5W20 and
6 quarts. Its bad service, thats what I call it. Cant get an oil change
right? What about something thats hard? Same problems?

ive used mobile 1 exclusively for about the last 20 years. my supra had 250,000+ on it and my jetta has 197,000 on it and uses no oil, its definately worth the extra $10 or so per oil change.

Man that's funny because it clearly states right on the invoice 4.0 V6 but that does make sense that they inputted it into the computer as a V8 with the higher quantity of oil and the type that goes into the V8.

Man I guess it takes a genius to change oil in a car now adays...[:@]OR to type into the computer the correct qty/part#. Well like I said, it was my first 5000 service and it was free. Here it goes...."You get what you pay for". Hey, at least they washed my car for me
