RE: oil in 4.0
5 quarts 5W-30 if you change the filter also.
Use the dipstick for the final level.

RE: oil in 4.0
Hmm that reminds me, one thing I noticed on one of my last oil changes, my dealer said they're using that 5w-25 or something, some sort of 25 weight oil anyhow. I wonder if that's a bad idea, I guess it is ok for a new engine though.

RE: oil in 4.0
there is a 5w-20 that the 4.6L engine runs, actually many ford engines recommend this so I was surprised to open my hood for the first time and see that the 4.0L uses 5w-30. Have you ever noticed, those that run the motorcraft synthetic blendlike I do, that when you go to a parts store or a wal mart that there is many many rows of 5w-20 and like 1 row of the 5w-30? Anyhow I would definately not want anything other than what was recommended as far as the weight. Reason being is that if you run 5w-20 in a engine designed for 5w-30 the valve train wont get proper lubrication increasing camshaft wear and also the wiper ring on the pistons wont clean a sufficient amount of oil off the cylinder wallmaking the engine burn oil and decrease longevity of the engine.
