Default CNC-made gas cap badge

I wanted to try something that as far as I know nobody has done privately. Luckily I have CNC access so I figured I'd try to make my own center cap for the gas cap badge. These are my results...

drew the design I wanted in CAD/CAM software

machining...

machining finished

cleaned off

finished up

on the car itself and finished.

What do you guys think of it? I may take if off and give it more of a chrome look, I haven't decided. If you guys think it's too ugly, I'll certainly take it off, I was looking for a consensus. I think it took me about three hours with designing time.

maybe drop the horse, dont think its workin. try only using numbers.....4.0 alone in a different type face could look cool.....or maybe 245. pretty cool that you can fabricate the cap though.

I think giving it a more satiny finish would look good. The text and numbers seem oversized for the scale of the piece in general. I can see you put some time into it though...congrats on making it yourself!

1/2" endmill with a 1/8" 90 degree center drill for engraving.

I buffed it up quite a bit to see how that would work out.

if nothing else, it would probably make a badass coaster.

nice. id polish it to bright finish, color the engravings body color and recess it into the badge for a custom piece with an oe look. thats what i would do.

yeah, this is by no means permanent, I was trying to just see how it would look. I think it's kinda ugly right now myself. It's definetely too thick (.100"). Right now it's basically just got a buffed finish on it, I haven't used any polishing at all. So far it's held on there with 3M double-sided tape (no ricer jokes, I'm taking it off over and over so I'm not doing anything drastic until it's figured out). My problem now is to decide if it's worth taking the stock piece out and if so, how to go about doing it. I could definetely pull it out to the same finish as the stock chrome look cause 6061 aluminum just polishes so easily.
