this fourm never changes
base intercooled procharger, vortech, and paxton kits make more power than the gt
i would say F the swap and go FI or just TRADE IT IN
4.0 for life (cobra would be nice though)

RE: Swapping in 4.6?
Not sure how this qualifies but, at Murillo Motorsports here in San Antonio (shameless plug?) they have already yanked the motor out of an 06' V6 and stuffed in an 03' Cobra engine. I would assume they replaced all the necessary parts but I haven't seen 'em run it yet. The owner says it was $6k.

RE: Swapping in 4.6?
I can't decide if I would want to do this or just get an X-Charger if I had some money laying around. I think it would be so much cooler to have a pony package V8. It would be really unique.

RE: Swapping in 4.6?
on good old ebay there is a COMPLETE 4.6 & 5 speed drivetrain for $4500 buy it now with low mileage.
And they are including ALL wiring harnesses, computer, cross members, pedals, etc..
Complete swap

With GTs getting cheaper by the hour, you should consider the cost of replacing your car with a GT vs all the work/labor/smog legalities of changing your current car's engine. The less work involved(unless you're a skilled mechanic/fabricator), the better off you'll be IMO. Either way, you're probably looking at $6-7K, which, if you shop carefully, you might be able to save some of that $ by just trading for a GT. Although I see the allure of having something that goes like it shouldn't be able to.

+1 on gtdrivers post, it isn't easy, its very expensive and if it isn't done right it will be a monster to make it work.

RE: Swapping in 4.6?
id say its a matter of preference.taking into consideration you can do some wrenching yourself. ive done some research and the cost of properly building the 40 to 400+ hp is about the same as swapping in the 5.4. you alsogotta look at the cost of all the non motor parts you need also.

this swap is easy. if it wasn't for me forging the 4.6 and adding a kenni bell i could do it right at 4k. we're even doing a 4.6 three valve swap in my sons 03 mustang gt 4.6 two valve.
