Default New Muffler Hurts Break-in Period?

Just a question that's been on my head tonight:
My new V6 barely has 100 miles on it.
Will changing to an aftermarket axle-back muffler (Borla or Flow) harm the car during the break-in period?

Thank you for your help.

I've heard of people on this forum that were changing their mufflers out almost immediately or even at the dealership...
other than that I don't know the logistics of it...

+1

I would say that's the big risk of getting a new muffler when the car is brand new.

But, if you have pretty decent self control, then go for it. It doesn't destroy the car to stomp on it once in a while during the break in period anyway.

If you have no self control, and know that you're gonna be walking on the car every time you hear the muffler rumble, it might be wise to hold off for a little while and give the car a chance to break in first.

Thanks for the replies.
I have severe OCD. I'm very careful with the break-in period.
So you all feel pretty confident that the new mufflers won't affect the engine during break-in?

Thanks again!

As long as you can keep your foot off the pedal (at least sort of; the car is a waste if you don't have any fun with it) your engine will be fine.

If you put on a new muffler and actually drive nice (which I've never really heard of happening before) you might actually get better-than-factory gas mileage too!

Cool. I will get one installed tomorrow afternoon.
Probably a Borla catback.
But I also like the Flowmaster AT, even though some have said its gut is crappy quality.
Mostly likely the Borla, then.

Thanks!

And I will have pictures to show.
If I remember to bring the camera with me, I'll take pictures of the install and the final look.
I'll probably forget the damn camera, though. [&o]
