Default Code Reader

I have an Equus Innova 3100 Code Reader and was wondering why it does not work with my 2007 Mustang. The car is OBDII compliant so why is the reader not working? Does it have something to do with the new 'CAN' stuff?

2007 and up has the OBDII port but its not a OBDII system. The CAN you mention is what the system is called on the 2007 and up. This is exactly why your scanner cannot communicate with it, different system. I have the SOLUS scanner system from Snap-On, they provided me with the keys for the CAN system. Im not familiar with the Equss scanner though...is it the one that Autozone carries? Some scanners that dont use keys sometimes will have firmware available through the internet.

05 and 06 have OBDII systems. Therefore the scanners you buy from parts stores like Advanced and Autozone will most likely read the codes. 07 started the CAN system, all 07's. Therefore there is going to be many many scanners on the market that will not work on the 07's without some sort of update.

Thanks everyone for your response. I figured as such but just wanted to get some feedback from everyone else. Well the equus won't go to waste, I've got a 96 full size Bronco and a 99 Expedition that they work on. Looks like I'll be in the market for another reader/scanner or possibly scanner/programmer.

I would suggest investing in the tuner/scanner since you already have a scanner for everything else. After months of reading, waiting, and thinking I have decided to go with the Xcal 3 and most likely a CandL intake myself.

Thanks for the info. After I take care of some of the bills created by Christmas and my Bronco and Expedition's sudden need for $300 in parts I am going to seriously look into getting one. The 4 Liter runs pretty good like it is but I want to give it a little more pep with the air filter and a programmer.
