BUG VS. MUSTANG?

1.) Why put (or buy) a V6 Bug? That is like strapping a bottle rocket to your pet turtle.
2.) Torque wins races not HP. Wasn't it Roush or Shelby that said that?
3.) The driveshafts in our cars are "rated" up to 115, that doesn't mean at 115 mph it turns bright red and just poofs. It means it was not designed to handle the rpms/vibrations at 115mph or more. Besides, you shouldn't be going that fast on the streets anyway.
And lastly, I don't care what kind of engine they put in a bug, when VW used this as an advertising billboard for their car's, then even they don't have alot of desire/faith in the speed factor

RE: BUG VS. MUSTANG?
I know this is a Mustang forum but I need to mention that Lotus Elise and Exige kick butt with only 190 and 210 HP. That's due to power to weight ratio. Those of us that have ridden bikes know all about how 100hp can really fly!!!!
Anyway, bug weighs in at 2884 pounds and thats 16 pounds for every HP. Stang tips the scales at 3477 pounds and each HP must carry 16 1/2 pounds. So, power to weight is won by the bug by not a large margin but won none the less. To put it into perspective, the Lotus only puts around 9 pounds on each HP.
When the numbers are close, it comes down to how much torque and HP you get to the ground. If you have an auto tranny then you already begin with a handicap. If you put heavy rims and tires on the axles that's another handicap and so on and so on
At the end of the day.......who the Hell wants to drive a bug other than women?

I traded an '03 Beetle Turbo S for my '06 Mustang recently. I'll say the
Turbo S is pretty quick throughout the 6spd trans gear range and when
the turbo spools up, it kicks you back. But you had better have a second
bank account to fund repair/upgrade parts. The VW stealership network is
the achilles heal of the car. They are obscene on repair/part costs. The car
is a reskinned Golf/Jetta. I believe 08 is the end of the current car. The
Mustang is what it is and I like the styling/handling for the buck. I'd say so
far the Mustang with an intake/chip upgrade would take the Turbo S. The
fun factor is definitely in favor of the Stang. Besides, I took ---- everyday
I was driving a girl's car.

RE: BUG VS. MUSTANG?
My girlfriend has a 1.8T 5spd Beetle. I bet that it could run a low 15 at best, thats with optimal conditions. They're basically the same as MKIV 1.8T GTI's. A chip will take them from 150hp to between 205-220hp depending on which revision of the 1.8T you have. Every 1.8T made after 2001.5 (I can't remember the engine code) has a bigger k03sport turbo which is a bit better than the regular k03 that came in older ones.
Her car weighs about 3000lbs, with an automatic it should be more.
A stock auto v6 vs a stock auto Mustang V6, the Mustang should win easily. A stock auto v6 Mustang vs a stock 5spd 1.8t Beetle. The race will be much closer.
But once again, a chip can give the 1.8T up to~65hp more.
