87 or 89
ok i have been running 87 gas from cheveron for ever. now i was wondering is better if i try a higher octane like 89. cause i put it in there once and the car felt a little more jumpy on the throttle lol but i dont know if it is good for the car.

RE: 87 or 89
Did a little test for myself...
I filled up a tank completely with the lower end (87 I think) at my local BP gas station. Ran it till I had around 24 miles till empty (interior upgrade). Knowing that it wouldn't be an exact amount, I also reset the trip odometer. It was at 288 miles. To recap:
Miles till empty: 24
Trip Meter: 288
Then went to the same gas station, and filled up on 93. At 288 miles on the trip meter, I still have 47 miles till empty. You can do the math to see if the amount of money spent towards 93 is sufficiant enough to get over the 87. Also, different areas have different prices on gas so.
Miles till empty: 47
Trip Meter: 288
But I did get better gas mileage. Didn't notice much change, if any, to the throttle responds, although I was going for gas mileage. Maybe my next test will be to test that. If anyone wants to they can calculate the amount per gallon to 93 and 87 to see if it is worth spending the extra bucks for 93. I did it once, but I do not remember my numbers, and don't have time to do it now.
Just thought I would add my two cents.

I will add my two cents.
My totally stock, 99 Ranger with 3.0, 4x4 and 5-speed manual definitely ran better on 93 than on 87. It also got significantly better gas mileage (around 2 mpg) better. Also different brands of gasoline can make a big difference. The Ranger without a doubt ran best and got the best mileage on Shell 93 octane.
I have not done any experimentation with the Mustang. I just put in 87 at whatever station is convenient, it runs fine and gets average of around 30 mpg in mostly interstate commuting at around 65 to 75 mph.
