Tire Pressure

RE: Tire Pressue
yeah. it doesnt really do anything. nothing is special about nitrogen. its only slightly larger molecule than oxygen. does not much essentially. i had nitrogen in my tires all summer and they really made no difference and when i inflated them with air laterthere wasnt any difference to be told. i believe nitrogen's selling point is that it takes less warmup time due to the larger particles. but nothing substantial.

idk. ive never heard that. but when we studied the effect of it in chem, it was all about the permeablility of rubber and how the oxygen could condense/expand more and was a smaller molecule resulting in it going flat faster.

nitrogen is one of the manufactures tricks for milking every bit of gas mileage out of the car. heres the deal, try to wrap your head around this.nitrogen is lighter than oxygen which corelates to less rotational mass which corelates to less energy required to propel the vehicle which equals better fuel mileage. ya its crazy. couldnt believe it myself until i took a class in advanced engine diagnostics recently and the instructor enlightend us on that little bit of trivia.
oh ya and always go with the manufactures psi recommendations on the door jam regardless of tire brand as a minimum psi. if you under inflate the tire will overheat and blow out. i typically run about 40 psi as it makes the tire firmer and a little more predictable in a corner.

i guess. its only one element over on the periodic table so it cant be that much. i mean the weight of atoms only figures out to E-27 or something like that. meaning like .000000000000000000000000000xxx (insert grams in place of the x's)

RE: Tire Pressue
sorry not atoms, protons and neutrons. and electrons arelike E-29 or somethin even smaller like that. but when you put all of those together you still only get so much. you'd be lucky to even get .0000000000000000000000000843 grams per molecule. i mean yeah theres alot of molecules, but it still wont amout to anything.

alright, i work at Discount Tire...i roll with some 235/45/17 Yoko YK5200's, run with about 33psi, i would never put over 35 in my tires, no matter what the sidewall says. and nitrogen...no offense, but thats stupid, maybe your car will weigh idk...an oz less, and wtf are you going to do if you drive through fire?!?!?!? your screwed

.............................and ride like a lumber wagon. No need to go over 35 psi.
