Default n00bish question

Why do I keep hearing people refer to the 4.0 as a "torque monster"?

Do some research and you will see how much torque our ponies produce.

It is pretty impressive for a V6 to produce 240 foot lbs of toque

I know it has 240 ft-lbs, I just didn't think it was considereda lot. I though people were being sarcastic.

An example...

The dodge charger is 3.5L high output V6... it is 250hp and 250ft-lb torque vs ours of 210hp and 240ft-lb torque. The 3.5L charger SXT is technically a larger engine but by comparison at same HP we would be running 280 torque, not to mention ours cars are lighter, thus making us faster

When you add a CAI/Tune your looking around 280ft-torque and then add a S/C and you have great amounts of torque.

I actually broke the lumbar support in my seat the other day taking off at a light. No kidding.. I took of hard and I heard a loud "pop".. and now I don't have lumbar support on my driver's seat anymore ;(

Either

1. I am gaining a lot of weight.. and it broke because I am getting fatter with old age.

2. Our seats are cheap

3. Our cars are torque monsters..

My guess is it's a combination of the three that caused my seat back to break..

The "Torque Monster" reference is indeed a tongue-in-cheek comment about the 4.0L V6. A while ago, wolfey2k got into a somewhat heated exchange in the Street/Strip Section at MF. In his zeal to support the 4.0L, the term "Torque Monster" was born. But when you see the term used, it is not necessarily a put-down. Some of the 4.0L motors with forced induction do indeed produce alot of torque.

I guess I thought either Torque Monster or V6 of Furywas acceptable when describing 4.0 performance.
