Default BBk Cai problems

OK noob here with noob Qs. Last week I got an mrt aero turbine and a bbk cai. I installed the aero turbine (love it) drove the car a few days and then installed the bbk cai. The first time I drove the car after I installed the cai my service engine soon light came on. Called nino sport and they said call bbk. Called bbk and they said they had some problems with geting the tube diameter around the maf sensor the right size and are going to send me a new intake pipe at no charge. BBKs customer suport has been very helpful. But now for the problem. Since it was going to take BBk a week or two to send me a new intake tube I put my factory air intake back on. I have driven a tank full of gas since puting the factory intake back on and the service engine light is still on. The car is not tuned and BBk said I shouldnt need one with their Cai. The car drives and sounds fine so why would my engine light still be on after puting my factory inake back and driving a tanks worth of gas through it? Suggestions?

your car is/was running lean. despite what BBK says, their intake does require a tune. a lot of people have figured that out the hard way.

take you car to an auto parts store to have them clear the code so the check engine light goes off.

I was afraid it would need a tune after reading some of the other posts. I was realy hoping to wait on the tune a while though. Another Q? will disconecting the battery clear the codes?

it should. now that you have your stock airbox back on, the code would probably go away after a while, but you could disconnect the battery too.

most auto stores will clear/read the code for free if you wanted to make sure that the check engine light was for a lean condition, but im sure it was.

the bbk cai doesnt necessarily need a tune... it would definitely help with performance... but as far as the check engine light goes I installed my bbk cai with no problems....

I put mine on with no tune but the tune is what brings it to life. Disconnect your battery to clear your code or take it to a parts store and let them do it. Even with your new tube you may still need a tune cause quite a few people with the bbk have needed one.

Almost everybody with the BBK needs to get a tune. BBK should just not be allowed to touch the intake track of our cars.....no CAI, no TB!

I understand what you going through. The BBK CAI does require a tune. I have mine and it gives me problems at times. About a week before a local Mustang clubs dyno day it was acting giving me CEL light. Then two days before the dyno day it stops and works perfectly. The day of the dyno day I dynoed 208.4RWHP and 248lbs of torque. Last week the light comes on again. I cleared the codes with my tuner and been running fine since. I will be getting a custom tune in about two weeks from the shop that did the dyno day.
I highly recommend not getting a BBK CAI because of all the trouble I have gone through but getting Demelot, Steeda, JLT, or C&L.

Thanks for all the feedback. Next Q? Should I keep the BBK and just get a tuner or get rid of it and get something like the C&L w/ tuner?
