On mine, it is as if the bypass valve slowly closes, slowly bringing on more boost to get you up the hill without downshifting.

That's right, I was wondering if the steel pulley would be necessary over the 2.8 aluminum pulley. Has anybody noticed any wear issues??

they don't offer the aluminum pulley from bama anymore. and somebody observed issues with wearing, that's why bama isn't using it anymore. I'd just stick with the steel one; more durable, and you're not really saving much weight with the aluminum one.
