Default oh damn...

okay im looking for an estimate for those who have experience with blown trannies/clutches and rearends.... okay... so lets say i somehoe destroyed al of these things at once, how much would it be to replace it with parts from ford, vs. parts from SPEC, Detroit, etc.

last night my friends and i went out to just screw around and before i even got to my buddies house that we were meeting up at, i downshifted to first (i was going 10 mph), threw up the RPMS and dropped the clutch just to be an *** and have a little shot of acceleration, and this loud "'clunk clunk clunk clunk" happened. and kept happening. so i limped it to my other firends house to see what it was. and i couldnt see anything obvious, so i left it at his house, until i came home later that night. i tiold my dad the car was acting funny and he hot the whole "what the hell did you do now?" thing going, and heard the noise it was making, and hes sure i blew my tranny, and fried my clutch. my rear might be messed too.

anyone know how much this is gonna be to fix? im probably gonna have to pay for it myself (definitely atleast most of it). i would like to go ahead and get new gears, and LSD, and a higher rated clutch from SPEC, and maybe a flywheel, and d/s.

i just really hope my tranny isnt screwed up. it shifts fine, theres just this clunk when im going, specifically turning..

if anyone knows anything on this id really appreciate some help/advice. thanks.

I doubt you fried the tranny AND the clutch AND the rear-end all at the same time. It's tough to diagnose problems over the internet. You're going to have to narrow it down. Suspend the rear using jackstands on the frame, and inspect for anything obvious (u-joints, LCA's, shocks, etc). You may need to run the car through the gears while it's up and have a helper listen for where the sound is coming from (disclaimer: use extra care when doing this - not responsible if something horrible occurs).

Good luck!

first off does the car move and can you drive it and go throught the gears fine as is? you said you limped it home, which implys that its still drivable, if you fried the clutch, you wouldnt move or it would slip like a ****, and if the tranny is normal it should be ok.

its hard to say right now as its not in front of me but i had a similar problem with my car clunking knowing what t5s can handel and knowing what the wonderful 7.5 rear can handel, i would guess you destroyed you open diff, espcially if the noise is there when turning, the open diff gives power to both wheels until one looses traction then all power goes to that one wheel, so if you were spinning or turning (tires travel diff speeds when turning) it would again cause the clunking, it could also be an axle spline even though that is less of a rare occurance but it still can happen

take it to a shop because we cant give a positive ID on what it is without it in front of us, but my guess would be something in the rear end

here is a replacement Limited slip unit, and if you replace it with a ford part, your likely to do it again, ive blown 2 open diffs up[8D]

axle shafts even though its rare for those to go but just in case

and if you have a hand held tuner you mise well upgrade the rear end

the noise/action is VERY present when turning, but is there when backing up, and a little going forward. but mostly when turning, and ONLY when in gear. it feels like something is catching in the car and has to break past it to move. i was planning on getting a truetrac anyways, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise?.

i just hate having my car sit like it is. and i was supposed to have a show this wednesday... i have bad timing. it happened during mem. day weekend, before a show. ugh. i just hope its easily fixable.

thanks for the help guys.

Expect about $400 for install of diff and gears.

^ +1 and thats just for labor.

I'm going to bet it's your rear end..

the whole "clunks when turning " think kind of makes me believe that.

put the car in drive and make a sharp slow turn with it. a k turn would do fine.
if it pops (almost feels the like rear tires jump a foot like you went over a speed bump sideways )
then it's more than likely the rear end.

i would say rear end... try getting some speed and disengaging the clutch/tranny... this way its just momentum pushing you. turn the car a bit and see if you still get hte noise...

heh.. could be worse tho.. your stang could be totaled...
sorry.. im still a bit bitter...[:@][:@]

let us know how it turns out

thats exactly what it feels like... i hope its the rear... but yeah... i know it could be worse... but sadly my parents dont see it that way. they see it as a whole respect what you have and take care of it sort of way.

i apply to the school of a car is a car and should be driven (hard), but they dont. eventhough i constantly wash the car and fight dirt and junk on a black car, and am constantly cleaning/sweeping/or even dusting my car, this proves to them that i am unable to take care of anything they present me with. I was/am very lucky to get and have this car and i know it, but they dont think i do because i dont baby it around all of the time. i am certain that this was bound to happen eventually ,as the rearend has plagued me since i got the car, it has leaked multiple times, and the extra stress of the 20's could have accelerated the breaking down of the diff. as did my agressive driving.

oh and the noise only comes when in gear. if thetranny is disengaged there is no noise... or so it seems.
