Default GT brakes vs v6

Is there a difference in the Pony Package brake calipersand the GT brake calipers?

I'm thinking about changing over if there is... and how difficult to install are they?

No there is not.
The caliper brackets are different and the rotors are different.

Theactual CALIPERS are the same for the V6, PP or GT.

You need 2 caliper brackets part #6R3Z-2B134-B, the same left and right.
And some GT take-off rotors or GT aftermarket rotors.
The brackets come with the two one time use bolts from Ford and the
rotor removal is a snap after the retaining snap washers are removed.
Click on the thumbnail below for a pic of the clips. They can be
discarded after removal as they are only for assembly line rotor retention.
And you dont even need to bleed the brakes afterwords.
You also need 17" or better rims for the GT caliper brackets to fit.
Its a no-go with the stocker 16" rims. [:'(]

No. No difference in calipers.

The difference lies in the rotor diameter and the caliper mount brackets.

The GT rotor has to have a caliper mount that accounts for the larger diameter. The theory is that the larger diameter gives more leverage, thus more stopping power.

When I converted over, I also put new brake pads on. Biggest difference to me was instantaneous stopping power - but that can be noticed with just the replacement of brake pads.

No clue.

Side by side the gt and v6 calipers are exactly the same... at least when i put the two together i saw no obvious differences.

You are looking at the bracket - the full brake assembly is two separate pieces, the bracket and the caliper. The calipers are the same for the V6 and GT, only the bracket is different so it clears the larger rotor. The brackets are different and the V6 bracket has the "S197 V6" and the GT bracket says "S197 GT" stamped on them. The caliper itself doesn't have that.

and here are the brackets side by side

This is the bracket without the caliper sitting in position

And this is the full assembly

Way to go JIM!!! Great pics of the install!! Thats going to make it easy. Do you remember offhand what you paid for those brackets? Did you get them from the dealership? I assume thats the only place to get them but, I hate dealing with the dealership if I don't have to.

GT caliper brackets part #6R3Z-2B134-B
maybe $35 each at stealership
this includes the two 'one time use'
fasteners that will be required for
proper installation

these are brakes we are talking about
dont want a reused bolt snapping
during a hard braking situation []

I bought my set up off a guy at BlackMustangClub.com who upgraded to the Steeda. I see someone else posted the part number, and as I recall the price was right around $35 for the bracket. But you have to be careful with the dealership. The one I asked at the parts guy kept saying "they are the same on both cars, no difference in the brakes". I kept telling him he needed to check just the bracket and he insisted he was - I have a feeling he was looking at the caliper.

The installation is very easy, and I think I have a write up on here from several months ago with all the pictures. You don't have to bleed the brakes since you use the same caliper - it is as simple as unbolt the caliper assembly, unbolt the bracket and substitute the new bracket. Then pull the retaining clip on the rotor and slide it off, slide the new one in place.
You will need a "C" clamp and block of wood to put the piston back in on the caliper and then slide it into place, bolt it back up - be prepared to pump the brakes when you start it up because the piston will be pulled back. It is a good time to upgrade your brake pads at the same time.
