Fuel Door Rubber Stops

RE: Fuel Door Rubber Stops
Welcome to the missing rubber stops club.
Dealer is the only place to get them.
Does your fuel door rub your paint
by the hinge everytime you open it?
Welcome to that club also.
Ford cant even get the geometry
right on the fuel door hinge to prevent
it from rubbing the paint when opened.
I have noticed this on EVERY used S197
I have come across. [:'(]
I realigned my hingeto prevent this.
The door must also be opened and
closed very carefully to avoid paint damage
even with the hinge fix trick.
Instead of just pushing the door open to the left,
I have found that you must push to the left while
pulling the door away from the vehicle as well.
Check it out and see what I mean.

RE: Fuel Door Rubber Stops
I was having a horrible time keeping those rubber pieces in on mine. Every time I washed the car at least one would fall off. finally one day when I was gassing up I noticed one was gone. Went to the ford parts counter and bought two new ones. The piece that pushes in was much larger and I haven't had that problem since. As for the rubbing part......Have not had that happenyet. Although..........with the present escalating cost of gas I've entertained the notion of getting a locking billet door to preserve the presence of that precious $$$$$$ Commodity $$$$$

A screwdriver will pop it right open and you will end up with a
'mangled by a theif with a screwdriver' fuel door area.
Nowdays theives just drill a hole in the bottom of the gas tank
anyways. And ours being made of plastic just makes this easier.
An ice pick would do in a pinch. The only defense to this is lowering.

RE: Fuel Door Rubber Stops
My Mustang was used and the fuel door rubbed against the paint, i re alligned it and noticed the fuel pump at the gas station was pushing against it, so i hold the pump in place now.
