Default Yet another CAI Question

Sorry the search still isn't working []or I would have gone that route! ( I did read back about 10 pages though and found nothing)

I am getting a CAI without a tune. I am looking at the K & N set ups, but have a question.
What is the difference between a FIPK and a Typhoon? I can read that the FIPK is 7.54hp vs the Typhoon @ 7.07 ,one hasblack plastic tube vs the metal tube, and there is a $40 difference. But what is the actual difference in the 2 items mechanically?

Which is the better CAI? Does anyone know if this will still be fine running the cheapfuel in it?
Or is there a better setup for CAI without a tune that doesn't require computer mods and I can still run cheap gas?

Have you considered the S&B? Better priced and is a very nice unit. It can be run with or without a tune.

Yes, I did consider S & B, it is still in the back of my mind. But for now, and the near future I really see no reason for me to have a tune. I only drive the car maybe 40 miles a week, city driving, occasionally I take her for a 120 mile round trip cruise to the big city and back, that'sonly once every other month or so. Just really not at that point in time for a tune. May be considering something a bit better in the future, engine wise

So back to the question, does anyone know themechanical difference in the above products?

I am not sure about a CAI without a tune.

CAI's don't really do much for our car. Most of the gains are found from the tuning.

I barely drive my car and I have 7 tunes. They can help your gas mileage as well.

Plus when you upgrade your engine you can use the same tuner. You will just need a new tune.

all CAI's give you a little extra....the important decision is choosing which tune to run

Ok, I called K & N this morning and found out that there is no real difference between the two items. The Typhoon as they call it is .47 hp less than the FIPK becasue of the steel tube vs plastic tube. That's right a whole point 47. Woopee, no big deal really. They also said that you will definately feel a difference from just the cai without the tune, of course it won't launch you back into the rear seat, but it is still a power difference. Good enough for me!

And for those getting sold on the S & B intake, do your price shopping. Iordered the K &N setup on sale w/ a discount and free shipping for $243 from lmperformance.com
Now just the annoying wait for 7 days for it to get here!

Thanks to you guys that responded though, I do take everything that is said into consideration! But, I'd rather take baby-steps instead of jump in full bore.

if you're not going to get a tune then you might as well save your money for your "Engine Plans" and just get a k&n drop-in filter. even though you will get a bit better throttle response with a CAI, its not enough to justify the price if you have no tuning plans with your current setup. at least a k&n drop-in is still better than the paper stock filter.
